Phoenix, AZ - October 27, 2008 - In honor of the upcoming presidential election, Streets of New York restaurants has completed a very unscientific presidential poll of their own. The Phoenix based restaurant chain offered guests the opportunity to support their favorite candidate by purchasing their choice of either a John McCain pizza or a Barack Obama pizza. The candidate that sold the most pies would have part of the sales donated back to his campaign.
After three weeks of polling at all 29 Streets of New York locations throughout Phoenix and Las Vegas, as well as national news coverage on CNN and numerous other media outlets throughout the U.S., the winner of the infamous pizza poll is Senator John McCain. With votes tallied from on-line voting as well as individual pizza sales, John McCain was the front runner in the contest with a total of 1574 votes. Barack Obama was a close second with 1461 total votes.
In honor of Jonh McCain, an Arizona resident, the presidential pizza consisted of cheese, pepperoni and onions, his personal favorite. The Barack Obama pizza worked to pay homage to his home state of Hawaii with cheese, ham and pineapple toppings.
"Since John McCain is from Arizona, we were not surprised to see that Senator McCain won our pizza poll," said Rick Peterson, Chief Operating Officer for Streets of New York. "We're just happy that we had the chance to provide our guests with some great pizza all while encouraging them to exercise their right to get out and vote."
As promised by the promotion, Streets of New York will be making a small donation to the McCain Campaign, which will come from proceeds received from the John McCain pizza sales.
